The last weekend of the regular season represented the last chance for some high-profile MLB legends to say goodbye to their fans.

The Detroit Tigers had a series of farewell celebrations and events for slugger Miguel Cabrera, who was the longest tenured MLB player.

The St. Louis Cardinals also sent off Adam Wainwright into retirement.

Zack Greinke pitched what could have been his last game as a major leaguer in Kansas City.

Terry Francona, the Cleveland Guardians manager since 2013, also said goodbye last week.

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was undecided about his future, and many fans actually thought his last MLB game included an ejection for arguing balls and strikes.

Well, apparently it won’t be his last game, as he plans to keep playing.

“I want to play again…at least one more year.” -Joey Votto. @dpshow. Votto added that he wants to play for the Reds, but he would consider playing elsewhere if they want to move on,” Dan Patrick Show’s Paul Pabst tweeted.

The Reds have a $20 million club option for re-signing Votto for the 2024 campaign, with a $7 million buyout.

With Votto being 40, they won’t be exercising that option and will instead give him the $7 million.

After that, there is a good chance both parties find common ground to return on a one-year deal next season with a much lower salary.

If the Reds don’t want him back by any means, he is open to considering other teams.

He did make it clear his preference would be staying in Cincinnati, where he has played since 2007.

Votto remained somewhat productive when healthy, with 14 home runs and a .747 OPS in 65 games.
