On paper, there isn’t very much to be excited about for the Week 5 matchup between the 1-3 Denver Broncos and the 1-3 New York Jets on Sunday.

But for the players on the field, especially on the Jets’ sideline, it won’t be difficult for them to get amped up about this week’s game in Denver.

That’s because New York will be looking to get a win for their current offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired by the Broncos last year before he was able to finish a whole season as the team’s head coach.

Recently, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport revealed that some comments made by current Denver head coach Sean Payton earlier this year have fueled the Jets’ motivation for Sunday’s contest.

“Just a reminder, [Payton] said last year that the Broncos was one of the worst coaching jobs in NFL history and then talked about what the Jets essentially [were] doing on ‘Hard Knocks’ calling attention to themselves and questioning that.”

Payton’s comments are even more interesting now after the Broncos were embarrassed in Week 3 when they gave up 70 points to the Miami Dolphins.

Denver never allowed more than 51 points to their opponent in a single game last season when Hackett was the team’s head coach.

In addition to the motivation to get a win for their offensive coordinator, New York will also be returning to the site where running back Breece Hall tore his ACL in 2022.

Earlier this week, Jets head coach Robert Saleh revealed that, for the first time this season, Hall won’t have a pitch count on Sunday, meaning the Broncos should be getting a full dose of the young running back.

Jets’ HC Robert Saleh told reporters that the team will not be limiting RB Breece Hall’s workload any longer.

Will New York get revenge for Hackett this week, or will Payton’s comments from earlier this year be proven right?
