Ja Morant found himself amidst multiple gun-related controversies during the 2022-23 NBA season.
As a punishment, Morant will serve a 25-game suspension to start the 2023-24 campaign.
Evidently, Morant’s value among the NBA community has taken a steep dive ahead of the new season.
Even though many expected Morant to slip a few spots, ESPN ranking him as the 35th-best player heading into the upcoming seasons seems a bit too much.
Morant had a two-word response to the ranking via his official Twitter handle.

Last season, Morant was ranked as the ninth-best player in the league.
But he has apparently fallen 26 spots in ESPN’s new rankings.
Morant did have several off-court issues, but they shouldn’t overshadow his on-court performance as much as ESPN has predicted.
After all, Morant did average 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 8.1 assists over 61 games during the 2022-23 NBA season.
He was the primary reason why the Grizzlies finished the season as the second seed in the Western Conference.
Sure, the Grizzlies were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, but Morant deserves more respect than that.
Now, the ball is in his court to prove his doubters wrong.
However, it will be an uphill battle for Morant since he will have 25 games less than every player in the NBA to prove that.
Can Morant still manage to not only make the NBA All-Star team but also lead the Grizzlies to a respectable seed in the Western Conference?
The only way to find out is to be patient and see Morant’s shape for the new season.
