NBA fans usually have a tendency to praise superstar players for leading a team to a championship or any other accolade.
But having a phenomenal coach is as important as having a great lineup to succeed in the league.
Another job that’s insanely underestimated in the NBA is that of an assistant coach.
Former NBA assistant coach Brendan Malone was certainly one of the most respected people in his profession.
Unfortunately, he recently passed away at 81 years old and former New York Knicks All-Star Allan Houston wrote an emotional message for his coach via his official Twitter handle.
A great man and basketball purist. I’m so grateful to have had meaningful times and conversations with Coach Malone. Helped me grow in ways he’ll never know.
Love you coach! Your legacy is still impacting the game! Blessings to the entire Malone family. https://t.co/XLd0a4mIRq

Malone left a mark on the NBA with his amazing coaching.
He was one of the most beloved assistant coaches in the NBA for almost three decades.
While Malone may have passed away, his legacy is being carried by his son, Michael Malone.
Michael Malone is currently the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.
He led the Nuggets to their first NBA championship in franchise history last season.
It goes without saying that being a sensational coach runs in his DNA.
As for his father, many current and former NBA players mourned due to his death.
Brendan Malone proved that being an amazing assistant coach is nearly as important as being the head coach of a team.
After all, more often than not, assistant coaches are the go-to person for players on a team.
