The Baltimore Orioles had an up-and-down 2023 season.

The good came during the regular season when they won 101 regular-season games and clinched the number one seed in the AL.

But, since then, everything has been bad.

The Orioles had a first-round bye and then took on the Texas Rangers in the ALDS.

Baltimore proceeded to get swept and all of the positivity they built up this season is gone.

One silver lining for Orioles fans is that they should be in contention for many years to come.

This is a young team who seemingly let the playoffs get too big for them.

But, the Orioles have a few young stars and one of the best farm systems in all of baseball.

This season should be seen as a success and the first building block.

Nathan Ruiz asked Orioles GM Mike Elias if they plan to have a larger payroll next year.

Elias said it is only “Day 1 of the offseason” and he is not ready to discuss specifics.

Asked whether fans should expect the Orioles to have a higher payroll next season, Mike Elias replied, “It’s Day 1 of the offseason.” He said plans for the offseason are already being discussed in the Warehouse, but it’s too early to get into specifics publicly.

There is no question the Orioles can benefit from adding some better players this offseason.

One spot they should look to invest in is starting pitching.

Getting some more established arms at the top of their rotation could go a long way.

When it comes to their hitters they should feel great.

They have Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson leading the charge with number-one prospect Jackson Holliday expected to make his debut next year.

Any veteran pieces the Orioles want to add to the lineup is icing on the cake.

But, they are a few key moves away from truly competing for a World Series.
