We’re only heading into Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season, but it’s never too early to come out with rankings for each position group around the league, especially when it comes to the quarterback position.
With just a short sample size, most of these lists will change by the end of the season.
Still, guys like ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky are ready to share their rankings right now, and they want everyone to hear about them.
Orlovsky recently revealed who he believes are the top-five quarterbacks in the NFL so far this season, and honestly, none of his selections should really surprise anyone.

2. Patrick Mahomes
3. Tua Tagovailoa

Orlovsky has Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions as his fifth-best quarterback this year, Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers in the No. 4 spot, Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins as his third-best signal-caller, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 2, and in the top spot, he has Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.
Orlovsky says that his selections are based on the personal performance of the player, so team success didn’t have any impact on the quarterbacks he chose.
Most would likely agree with his selections, however, some might disagree with the order in which he listed them.
An argument can probably be made for Tagovailoa to be ranked ahead of Mahomes at this point in the season.
Compared to Mahomes this year, Tagovailoa has thrown for more yards and more touchdowns in addition to having a higher completion percentage, passer rating, QBR, and passing success rate.
But other than this, most people shouldn’t have much to complain about when it comes to the five quarterbacks Orlovsky selected.
