The Philadelphia 76ers are about to enter the 2023-24 regular season on a discordant note despite possessing one of the better rosters in the NBA.

James Harden, a three-time scoring champ and last season’s assist leader, is at odds with management after it didn’t trade him over the summer, as it said it would, and now they risk possessing a malcontent once the games start to count the week after next.

Many may be quick to solely blame Harden for this situation, but as former NBA player Antonio Daniels pointed out per SiriusXM NBA Radio, whenever there is drama in any type of relationship, it is never 100 percent one party’s fault.

With days to go before the start of the regular season, the Los Angeles Clippers, Harden’s preferred destination, are still looking to land him, but executive Daryl Morey reportedly wants an All-Star guard in return for Harden.

The Sixers do have reigning regular-season MVP Joel Embiid, who is at the height of his powers, and nice supporting players such as Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris, but their roster currently doesn’t look strong enough to get past the Milwaukee Bucks or Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference.

Harden is 34 and somewhat diminished compared to what he used to be, but he could still help a number of teams with his multi-faceted skill set.

Last season, he put up 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists a game while shooting 38.5 percent from 3-point range, but he shot just 3-of-11 in Philly’s Game 7 loss to the Celtics in last year’s Eastern Conference semifinals.
