When he was acquired by the Denver Broncos last year in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson was looking forward to a fresh start with a new organization.
Well, things didn’t go as well as Wilson or the Broncos had hoped in 2022, as the team finished with a miserable 5-12 record, thanks in part to the quarterback delivering arguably the worst single-season performance of his NFL career.
Fast forward to this year, when Denver thought things would go much smoother for Wilson and the rest of the team following the hiring of Sean Payton as their head coach.
Despite the new head coach, however, things have still been going terribly for Wilson and the Broncos, as they’ve lost five of their first six games to begin the 2023 season.
Given his struggles, some have wondered if Wilson will continue to be a starting quarterback in the league next year, and ESPN’s Bart Scott recently shared his thoughts on this, via “Get Up.”
“No, [Wilson will not be a starting quarterback next season]. I think he remains on the Broncos, but they use one of their draft picks [in 2024] for a young quarterback, and they use [Wilson] as a bridge quarterback.”

Wilson’s fall from the top during the last two seasons has been a bit surprising.
He didn’t really show too many signs of decline during his final year with the Seahawks when he threw for 3,113 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
But something has clearly been off ever since he joined the Broncos, and his struggles don’t seem to be fixable.
To be fair, Wilson might not even make it to the end of the current season as Denver’s starting quarterback.
He’s coming off of another terrible performance on Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs (95 passing yards, one touchdown, two interceptions).
If this continues, at what point does Payton send Wilson to the bench?
