The Boston Celtics are stacked.
Even though they gave up key rotation pieces like Grant Williams, Robert Williams III, and Marcus Smart, they still have more than enough depth at every position.
Moreover, they have versatility and dynamic players to tweak their lineups if need be, which is why the five starters aren’t set in stone yet.
That’s why coach Joe Mazzulla wanted to make it loud and clear that it doesn’t really matter who’s going to start or who’s going to come off the bench, as he believes the best and most important part of his roster is the fact that they can just plug guys in and watch them deliver (via Celtics on CLNS).

The second-year coach also talked about last year’s team, in which multiple guys stepped up and filled in different positions, even in the playoffs.
Of course, one would expect that Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis will be four of the five starters, but it seems like the other spot could be up for grabs.
Moreover, who gets to start doesn’t matter as much as who gets to be on the floor in crunch time, and that’s something they’ll have to figure out on the fly.
They kept most of their core together, obviously headlined by their two young stars.
But there are also plenty of new faces in Boston, and it might take a while before they can develop the kind of chemistry they need to reach their sky-high potential
