Over the last decade or so, the NFL has become a sport that has routinely been criticized for becoming too soft, especially when it comes to protecting players at the quarterback position with some ridiculous roughing-the-passer calls.
It seems as though the league has come to the conclusion that the quarterbacks are the star position and need to be protected at all costs because they’re the reason why most people love the sport and specific teams.
The league isn’t totally wrong in that assessment, but calls have gotten out of hand, and some fans and former players are outraged at how the game is officiated these days, where there’s less and less emphasis on physicality.
Ironically enough, one of the biggest reasons for the league heading in this direction is to protect arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, who was very vocal this week about not liking the direction the league is going in, via CBS Sports and JPAFootball.

It could be argued that Brady was able to play as long as he did because the league is getting softer and protecting quarterbacks with all the new rules that have been put in place over the years.
Outside of one major knee injury, Brady went through his incredible career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with minor bumps and bruises, so he should be thanking the league rather than putting it down.
However, things have gotten a bit ridiculous lately, where no one knows exactly what’s legal on the field and what’s not.
Brady isn’t wrong when he says this sport may eventually evolve into flag football.
