The Houston Rockets entered a rebuilding phase after they traded James Harden away to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021.
Since then, the Rockets have focused on acquiring as many young assets as possible for the team.
Evidently, the organization is hoping to rebuild the core of the team via the NBA Draft, and in 2023, the Rockets drafted Cam Whitmore using the 20th overall pick.
The Rockets definitely got a steal as Whitmore displayed his talent by performing an elite dunk against the San Antonio Spurs during the preseason.
Unfortunately, the dunk was disallowed by the referees as they called it a charge on Whitmore, and the Rockets rookie shared his thoughts on the incident via ClutchPoints on Twitter.
“Just know it was a big dunk. I just saw one person in front of me and I just rose up,” Whitmore said.
“Just know it was a big dunk. I just saw one person in front of me and I just rose up… Me, I don’t think it was a charge, but it is what it is.”

Whitmore’s dunk received a huge reaction from the crowd, and many were shocked after the decision to call it a charge.
Either way, the referees didn’t overturn the call, and fans were robbed of the potential dunk of the preseason.
As for the game, Whitmore recorded 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist in 24 minutes of playing time.
Whitmore’s performance helped the Rockets register a 99-89 win over the Spurs.
Following the victory, the Rockets are now a perfect 3-0 in the preseason.
Sure, preseason wins don’t count during the regular season, but it’s always good to enter the season on a winning note.
Can the Rockets maintain this form in the 2023-24 season and shockingly clinch a playoff berth when it’s all said and done?
The question will be answered throughout the course of the upcoming season.
