The Indiana Pacers and Buddy Hield were unable to strike a deal on a new contract.

The sharpshooting shooting guard is one of the best three-point threats in the league, so one would think it shouldn’t be hard to find him a new home.

However, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports (via ClutchPoints), a trade is unlikely to happen before the start of the 2023-24 regular season.

A trade for Buddy Hield is reportedly unlikely to happen before the start of the season and could come closer to the trade deadline, per @JakeLFischer.

Instead, Hield could be moved closer to the trade deadline, as both sides have struggled to find a new partner.

Hield became a prime trade candidate weeks ago when the talks about a contract extension stalled.

Truth be told, the rebuilding Indiana Pacers may not have room or use for him on their roster right now.

As good as he is, they do have a plethora of young players who could benefit from the touches and the minutes, and that’s likely to push him to the bench.

Hield’s abilities as a perennial three-point shooting threat are more than well-known in the league.

He’s been tied to the Los Angeles Lakers multiple times throughout the course of his career, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them engage in trade talks again if they struggle to knock down shots from deep this season.

Still, Hield and the Pacers will need to be extremely cautious with his workload before they find him a new home.

He risks injury every time he sets foot on the floor, and not staying healthy could only hamper his ability to be traded.
