Even though he has been an essential part of the team’s history, the future between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors currently isn’t very clear.
According to inside reporting, the Warriors and Thompson are very far apart in contract negotiations and Thompson is set to become a free agent next summer.
Speaking on his show, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas said that Thompson “shouldn’t even be negotiating” because of all he’s done for the team.
He suggested that Thompson needs to fight for a maximum contract and that the Warriors waiting on offering it to him is a bit disrespectful, via ClutchPoints.
“We shouldn’t even be negotiating…He gon’ be out there on demon time…”

Arenas and his co-hosts said that the Warriors might be pursuing a wait-and-see approach to offering Thompson a maximum extension.
They may want to witness what Thompson does in the new season before they make any moves.
If he goes into “demon mode” and scores 30 to 35 points a night, they would gladly offer him every cent that he desires.
But if he has another season with ups and downs, they will likely offer him less.
And if that is the case, Thompson could enter next summer as one of the most coveted free agents on the market.
Thompson put up 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 2022-23.
He hit a bit of a rough patch in the playoffs during the team’s series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
They ultimately lost that series and Thompson only had an anemic 8 points during their final game of the season.
The five-time All-Star recently admitted that he was exhausted by the end of last season and has made alterations to his game to ensure a better year.
His upcoming contract negotiations – and his future with the team – depend on it.
