As crazy as it may seem, Tuesday night’s game was the first time that Kevin Durant played in front of Golden State Warriors fans since he left the team in 2019.
Durant’s relationship with the fans, just like with every team he’s played for, has often been complicated.
Nonetheless, he was met with love, respect, and a standing ovation, not to mention a tribute video from the organization.
Following the game, Durant wasn’t shocked about that at all, as he claimed that the fan base has always been quite good to him, both as a player and a person (via Warriors on NBC Sports).

Truth be told, there’s no reason to hate Durant if you’re a Warriors fan; all the contrary.
He was instrumental in three trips to the NBA Finals and a couple of championships.
Durant has often talked about how he believes the Warriors should retire his jersey when he retires.
Perhaps he wasn’t in the Bay area for as long as other team legends, but he’s right on point if we consider what he accomplished in such a limited time.
Durant’s move to the Warriors changed the narrative around him forever.
Some fans will never respect him for joining a 73-9 team and getting an ‘easy ride’ to back-to-back championships.
Others, however, recognize that there’s no such thing as an easy ring, and will value him for his basketball legacy and nothing more.
And regardless of how you feel about him as a person, Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players we have ever seen; that’s just a fact.
