The New Orleans Pelicans need Zion Williamson; it’s as simple as that.
They’ve built their entire team and project around him, and they’re twice as good with him as they are without him.
That’s why it was such great news for the fans to watch him dominate and look as good as if he had never left, grabbing the ball at the top of the key like a point guard and taking it all the way to the rim with an emphatic poster dunk on Jaren Jackson Jr. (via Pelicans).

Zion missed most of last season with injuries.
He was tangled up in multiple trade rumors, but the team made it loud and clear that they still consider him to be the centerpiece of their project.
Everything regarding Zion has been rather mysterious.
The Pelicans never fully disclose his injuries, and he always takes way more time than the average player to come back, especially if we’re talking about soft-tissue issues.
Some fans have even urged them to just pull the plug and flip Zion into other assets, as it seems like he’s never going to be able to stay healthy for an entire season.
Then again, it’s hard not to be mesmerized by that kind of play when he’s actually on the floor, and it’s easy to realize why the Pelicans continue to hold onto the hope that he’s going to be healthy one day.
