The Chicago Cubs barely missed the postseason this year, but they are on the right path.
They finished with a 71-91 record in 2021, the year in which they tore things up and traded most of their stars.
Then, in 2022, they were 74-88: slight improvement.
This past season, the Cubs finished 83-79 and fought for a spot in the postseason until the final weekend.
The future, in addition, is bright, because they have a really strong farm system with potential impact players such as Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alexander Canario, Owen Caissie, Cade Horton, Luke Little, Ben Brown, Matt Shaw, and more.
Most of these prospects were acquired under the watch of Cubs’ head of scouting Dan Kantrovitz.
President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer has managed to put together an impressive front office.
It has been so good that the Boston Red Sox just hired former Cubs assistant general manager and vice president of pitching Craig Breslow to be their head of baseball operations.
Now, another team is reportedly after Kantrovitz.
“If Kantrovitz joins the Mets front office, the Cubs will have a second high-profile departure this offseason. Craig Breslow left the Cubs front office earlier this week to become chief baseball officer of the Red Sox,” MLB insider Jon Morosi tweeted.

Losing him would be a huge blow for the Cubs’ solid scouting department, as they would lose their leader.
He has given Chicago a very solid farm system, which serves as a potential source of cost-controlled players for the franchise or trade pieces to bring in more established talent.
The Mets, under their own overhaul with new president of baseball operations David Stearns looking to build his own elite front office, could be willing the give Kantrovitz a sizable raise.
