Usually, teams around the NBA don’t like to do business with their current players once the regular season has begun, and that seems to be the case with four-time champion Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors.
There was a lot of talk during the NBA offseason that Thompson and the Warriors brass might be able to come to terms on a lucrative long-term extension for the veteran guard, but nothing came to fruition as it seemed like both sides couldn’t see eye-to-eye on a new deal.
Ironically enough, the same situation happened with Draymond Green last season, as his future was up in the air, with many believing he could leave the storied franchise in the summer.
However, Green shocked everyone when he quickly agreed to a four-year deal with the team once free agency began to remain with the team that drafted him.
That could very well be the same case with Thompson, as this will likely be a storyline throughout the season, but he clearly doesn’t seem to be worried about his long-term future when talking about it ahead of today’s game against the division-rival Sacramento Kings, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
Klay Thompson doesn’t have an extension deadline, but does seem like talks are tabled with the season here: “I’m focused on the daily dedication it takes to do this job. I’m not worried about an extension.” pic.twitter.com/bAFi5kkpSl

The big concern for Thompson, which is also similar to Green’s situation last year, is that he’s lost a step or two and will never be the same player he was before the back-to-back season-ending injuries he had to battle back from.
Even though Thompson isn’t bothered about what happens after this season, he will be evaluated over the course of the season and will need a good year to prove his worth to the team moving forward.
