The New York Mets were one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this past season.

They entered the year with World Series expectations and fell flat on their face.

After the terrible season, someone had to take the fall for it.

That someone was manager Buck Showalter.

He agreed to mutually part ways with the Mets and now they need a new manager.

The Mets recently hired former Milwaukee Brewers GM David Stearns as their President of Baseball Ops.

He will have a significant opinion on who they hire next.

It makes sense that Stearns would go after a manager who he is familiar with.

According to Andy Martino, the Mets plan to interview Brewers manager Craig Counsell for their managerial job.

The Mets formal interview with Craig Counsell is still TBD. I don’t know exactly why that is, but I wouldn’t worry about it. There is obviously strong mutual interest in talking.

Counsell’s deal with the Brewers is expected to expire this week and the team is letting him look for a job elsewhere.

There seems to be a strong mutual interest between the sides.

Counsell just led the Brewers to the NL Central title and seems to be interested in managing a team that is close to competing.

If Counsell does not end up in New York he did also interview for the job with the Cleveland Guardians.

Not to mention, the Brewers would consider bringing him back if he cannot find a job elsewhere.

Having the right manager is important for any World Series contending team.

Just take a look at the Texas Rangers.

They were one of the worst teams in the league over the past few years.

But they hired legendary manager Bruce Bochy this offseason and now they are in the World Series.

It will be interesting to see where Counsell ends up, but the Mets seem like a good option.
