The Texas Rangers gave Corey Seager a huge $325 million deal in the 2021-22 offseason, before the lockout.

Many people thought that was too much money for Seager, but considering what he did for the Los Angeles Dodgers and what he is doing for the Rangers in the postseason, it might not be enough.

Let’s start with his regular-season performance.

In 2023, he hit an outstanding .327/.390/.623 with 42 doubles, 33 home runs, and a 1.013 OPS.

That would be enough for the AL MVP award if he didn’t have to share the same league as the guy in Los Angeles named Shohei Ohtani.

Then, in the postseason, he has gone on to slash .298/.444/.649 with five homers, 10 RBI, 14 walks, and a 1.094 OPS in 15 games.

He has been carrying the Rangers offense together with Adolis Garcia.

In the World Series (which his Rangers lead 2-1 as of Tuesday afternoon), Seager has homered two times.

They have helped Seager climb up an all-time list, in which he is currently tied for second.

MLB on FOX has all the details:

“Corey Seager is tied for second most home runs by a shortstop in postseason history,” they tweeted, with a graphic.

The graphic shows who he is tied with and who is first on the list.

He shares second place among shortstops in the postseason with Carlos Correa, currently on the Minnesota Twins, but having built his legacy with the Houston Astros.

The all-time leader among shortstops is none other than New York Yankees Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, who has 20.

Seager and Correa both have 18.

The two home runs that Seager has hit in the current World Series have come in extremely high-leverage spots.

The first one came with one out in the ninth inning of Game 1, with Texas down two runs and with a man on base.

The other one helped the team reached its second win of the Fall Classic.

It’s crystal clear by now: the Rangers wouldn’t be where they are today without Seager.
