The Minnesota Vikings simply cannot catch a break.

They were finally on the right path after a slow start to the season, and Kirk Cousins was posting MVP-caliber numbers.

Cousins tore his Achilles in the midst of the best year of his career and just before becoming a free agent and potentially fetching another big contract.

Now, he’s looking at a long layoff and an uncertain future.

At least he’s in great spirits, as he told the fans on Twitter after successfully undergoing surgery to repair his Achilles.

Surgery was a success! Grateful for your prayers, Dr. Coetzee’s abilities, and our medical team. Would appreciate continued prayers! One day at a time… pic.twitter.com/prVoPwLsfB

Cousins is a fan favorite in Minnesota, and while he has had his fair share of struggles against winning teams and in primetime games, he’s a beloved and respected member of the locker room.

Despite all the trade speculation, Cousins stated that he wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause because he wanted to stay in Minnesota to try and help turn the season around.

That speaks volumes of his leadership and love for the organization, especially considering the fact that they’ve been looking to get some salary and stars off their books.

Through eight games, Cousins had led Kevin O’Connell’s team to a 4-4 record, throwing for 2,331 yards with a league-leading 18 touchdowns and five interceptions, all while completing 69% of his passes, and that’s with Justin Jefferson missing time with an injury.

He’s 35 years old and entering the downside of his career.

Not many athletes are able to come back to the same level after such a major injury, let alone at that age.

But Cousins will fight his way back into the league, and multiple teams could look to give him a chance.
