The Washington Commanders traded away two of their best players.

They landed a second and a third-round pick in return for Montez Sweat and Chase Young, and while watching them go could be hurtful for their defense, most analysts predicted those moves would take place before the start of the season.

This gives the Commanders some much-needed draft capital and financial flexibility, which are two things a new ownership regime should always prioritize.

With that in mind, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network cleared the air on Ron Rivera’s job security, stating that he seems to be in a good place with the new owners right now.

Rapoport made it clear that new owner Josh Harris had his fingerprints all over these trades, adding that he feels okay with Rivera leading the team for a little further, not to mention the fact that he was also on board with these moves.

Also, with the jury still out on Sam Howell, the Commanders now have more than enough ammunition to try and pursue a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft, should the team decide to move in that direction.

Rivera entered the season in the hot seat, and some people thought Eric Bieniemy would be there to replace him midway through the season.

The Commanders have been up and down this year, but they’ve shown some signs of promise.

Now, we can expect them to be one of the most aggressive teams in the upcoming offseason, both via trade and free agency.
