The Chicago Bears and Jaylon Johnson came to a mutual agreement with less than 24 hours until the trade deadline.
Johnson was finally allowed to seek a trade, opening himself up to other teams to help them for a potential postseason push.
While he was given permission, and it seemed as though teams were interested, a deal was never constructed.
Johnson is now slated to stay on the Bears’ roster for the remainder of the year.
After the trade deadline passed, Johnson provided a statement about the process, and what his current feelings are.
Johnson’s comments started by calling the situation “interesting,” adding, “It’s easy to take everything personally.”
In the still-cloudy Jaylon Johnson contract saga, here’s a *lengthy* answer from Jaylon on what this has all been like:
“What’s it like? How can I describe it? I mean, I feel like for me, this whole situation is an interesting situation. Because it’s easy to take everything…

Johnson talked at length about a potential new contract, either with the Bears or another team.
Had he been traded, a proposed contract was a likely talking piece with a new team.
For Johnson to leap to another roster, he had to trust that they had his best interests in mind and that they would pay him a fair salary.
As Johnson later mentioned in this statement, he is not looking to reset the market or to become one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.
All he was, and is looking for, is an opportunity to be paid fairly for the work that he puts forth for a particular team.
Many fans have speculated that Johnson made these comments to effectively tell the Bears that he would have taken a smaller contract with a different team.
This will be a situation to monitor moving forward, especially into the postseason where Johnson will look for a new deal.
