Dennis Schroder’s tenure with the Atlanta Hawks wasn’t that impressive.
They took him just outside of the lottery in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft, hoping he’d be their point guard for the future.
After a couple of years serving as Jeff Teague’s backup, ‘the German Rondo’ finally got a hold of the starting PG position, but he failed to live up to the task.
Schroder was later at his best coming off the bench, providing an instant offensive spark and commanding the second unit, and becoming a perennial candidate to win Sixth Man of the Year.
However, now that he’s joined the Toronto Raptors, he’s proving that his success in the FIBA Basketball World Cup wasn’t a fluke, and it seems like he may have finally established himself as a starting-caliber point guard.
As pointed out by Legion Hoops, he’s scored 81 points and dished out a whopping 46 assists in his team’s first five games of the season.

He’s currently averaging north of 16 points and nine assists per game for the 2-3 Raptors.
Toronto signed him to sub in for Fred VanVleet, who left to sign with Ime Udoka’s Houston Rockets, and he’s done a great job as a floor general.
Scottie Barnes also handles playmaking duties for the Raptors, but Schroder has been a vocal leader and strong presence on the court since arriving up north.
It took him until his age-30 season, but he’s finally proving that scouts weren’t wrong about him when they saw him as a starting-caliber PG.
