The Los Angeles Lakers are considered NBA Finals contenders by many.

Looking at their roster and how they performed last year, it is fair to assume they are contenders in the West.

But, to do so they must put a lot on the plate of LeBron James.

James is in his 21st season and he is 38 years old, so the Lakers would be wise to limit his minutes during the regular season.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham said after the first game that he would like to keep James’ minutes around 30 per game.

So much for that, as we are five games in and James is averaging 35.6 minutes per game.

Colin Cowherd says the amount of LeBron minutes will hurt the Lakers’ title chances.

He said: “LeBron’s not supposed to be in these wind sprints in November. He’ll wear down and won’t be as effective in the playoffs.”

The Lakers know they have to get into the playoffs first, and James must be on the court to do so.

Anthony Davis has yet to take over the alpha role in LA, and it seems like he never will.

He is too inconsistent on a nightly basis to be trusted to carry the Lakers.

James is the one sure thing in the Lakers lineup and they plan on using him.

We have never seen a player at 38 play as well as James is playing.

But, to continue to use him for 35+ minutes a night could cost them dearly in the postseason.
