When it was revealed that the San Antonio Spurs won the 2023 NBA Draft lottery, there seemed to be a shift within the organization.

For a team that has been one of the NBA’s worst for several years, this was the best possible news.

They received the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama, the alleged best draft prospect since LeBron James.

Since they drafted him, the Spurs have looked different on the floor, and have a 3-2 record through five games.

Wembanyama is coming off a career-high 38 points, causing Gregg Popovich to call him a “Multifaceted” player.

“He’s a multifaceted player.”

Popovich is one of the most well-respected coaches in the league.

He is a five-time NBA champion and has been the Spurs’ head coach since 1996.

Popovich has seen many talented players during his time in the league, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James.

While he is slow to give Wembanyama comparisons to any top players, Popovich seems impressed with what he has seen thus far.

Wembanyama’s combination of elite scoring abilities and rebounding, along with being a great passer are what made him an elite prospect.

This game against the Phoenix Suns was his first statement game in the NBA, a potential sign of what’s to come.

The Spurs might have been one of the NBA’s worst teams over the past few years, but this young roster looks to change their fortunes.

It starts with Wembanyama, but other young players such as Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson have stepped up alongside him.
