There’s been a lot of confusion amongst NBA players and fans about what the In-Season Tournament is and why the league is implementing the annual event, with a team to be crowned at the end of it in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The In-Season Tournament is a concept the NBA has borrowed from professional soccer leagues overseas, with a lot of those tournaments across the pond being incredibly popular.

With the league continuing to borrow from the most popular sport in the world, from sponsorships on jerseys to these tournaments during the regular season, the NBA hopes to have similar success in the near future.

However, at the moment, some players have no idea what the In-Season Tournament is, like Bones Hyland of the Los Angeles Clippers, who said the following about the tournament, according to Andrew Greif of the L.A. Times via NBACentral.

“I’m not even going to lie. I don’t even know what’s going on.”

There’s bound to be a lot of confusion for the first few years; in the same way, there was confusion and a lot of blowback when the league implemented the Play-In Tournament.

Now, in retrospect, most people love the Play-In Tournament as it has made the NBA playoffs that much more exciting while giving more teams a chance at winning an NBA title.

Last year was proof that the Play-In Tournament was a good idea, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat both coming out of the tournament to make deep runs, as LeBron James and company made it to the Western Conference Finals and Jimmy Butler’s squad advanced to the NBA Finals.

The In-Season Tournament could prove to be the same in a few years time.
