The Minnesota Timberwolves had some talented players in the post-Kevin Garnett era, but they didn’t have a Kevin Garnett-type competitor.
It all changed when they got Anthony Edwards, a relentless player who’s going to do whatever it takes to help his team get a win, no matter what, where, or who they go against.
That fierceness was on full display again in Monday night’s win over the Boston Celtics, especially on a play late in the game when he locked up Jayson Tatum and forced a game-changing jump ball.
When asked about that, Edwards talked about how Tatum is one of the best players in the game, stating that he “fortunately” called for an iso, and he was able to lock him up and fire back at his trash-talking (via Jon Krawczynski).
Ant called Tatum “1 of the best players in the league.” On the battle:
“He was talkin smack at the jump ball at overtime. And I told him, ‘(expletive), I’m comin again’. Luckily, he called me up for an iso and tried to iso me, and I’m like, ‘I play defense, I just got 5 fouls’.”

We already know that Edwards is a prime trash-talker, but he’s not exactly known for his defensive prowess.
He’s put in a lot of work on that end of the floor, and he has all the physical tools to become a lockdown defender if he keeps improving in that regard.
As for Tatum, his character has often been put into question by his critics, and even some Celtics fans, and they were ruthless to him on social media for letting a smaller and exhausted player beat him on a late-game crucial jump ball.
Edwards finished the night with 38 points, nine boards, seven assists, and his third consecutive win, all by handing the Celtics their first loss of the young season.
