It had been a while since the San Antonio Spurs had a legitimate superstar.

Neither LaMarcus Aldridge nor DeMar DeRozan were able to lead this team past the Tim Duncan era, but the answer to their prayers has finally arrived.

Victor Wembanyama looks like the real deal, and he already has several players’ seals of approval.

That includes Los Angeles Lakers legend Michael Cooper, who recently went as far as to compare him to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

In his latest appearance on the NBA Legends Lounge (via ClutchPoints), Cooper stated that Wembanyama was similar to Kareem in the sense that no one can contest his jump shot because of his height.

Lakers legend Michael Cooper on Victor Wembanyama

“He would be a player that I could not guard… Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] was always gonna get that shot off if he wanted to. But if you double and triple team, Kareem was always looking for that open player. [Wemby] for me is in… pic.twitter.com/RETqFPvBvn

But more than that, Wembanyama is also like Kareem because you cannot double or triple-team him either, as he’ll just find the open man with his passing.

Wembanyama is more than just a tall player.

He’s got guard-like handles and has no issue putting the ball on the floor and leading the break after a rebound.

He’s also a crafty passer with a high basketball IQ and the Spurs are already benefitting from his playmaking.

Wembanayama has already turned plenty of heads, and he hasn’t even been in the league for a full month.

It seems like none of the few flaws in his game are final, and he’s just going to keep improving on every single aspect of his game.

If he stays healthy, it shouldn’t take long before we see him in the MVP and DPOY conversation year in and year out.
