There was a time when the Houston Rockets were regarded as one of the best teams in the NBA.

Yes, we are talking about the time when Hakeem Olajuwon was in the prime of his career.

Olajuwon even led the Rockets to back-to-back NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995.

All things considered, Olajuwon is regarded as a Rockets legend and one of the best NBA players of all time.

Olajuwon’s name recently popped up on social media following Alperen Sengun’s epic performance against the Sacramento Kings, for which he received a shoutout via the Rockets’ official Twitter handle.

.@alperennsengun orchestrated a career high against the Kings

He has now tied Hakeem Olajuwon for the #Rockets single game record for assists by a center!

Sengun recorded 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 12 assists in the Rockets’ comfortable 122-97 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

The young center equaled Olajuwon’s record for dishing out the most assists by a Rockets center in a single game.

Needless to say, that’s elite company for Sengun to find himself in during the early years of his career.

For the 2023-24 season, Sengun is averaging 18.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game for the Rockets.

The 21-year-old center had a breakout 2022-23 season, where he averaged 14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.

While many were happy with Sengun’s development last year, the Rockets center seems to be aiming even higher this year.

Sengun’s early-season performance is one of the biggest reasons behind the Rockets having a 3-3 record thus far.

While the record may not sound like a huge deal right now, one should take into consideration that this is the same team that had a 22-60 record last season.
