NBA star Metta World Peace has always had some controversial thoughts.

Just a couple of days ago, he named Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Stephen Curry, and Larry Bird as the greatest players in NBA history.

Now, it seems like the former troublemaker has changed his mind, as he’s backpedaled and chose Tim Duncan over those players instead (via Legion Hoops).

Needless to say, NBA fans had plenty to say about that and took to Twitter to express their thoughts.

He’s top 5 for sure

So anyone else gonna wonder what Metta is smoking this time?

There’s no arguing that. Tim Duncan is right up there.

Truth be told, it’s odd to think that most people don’t think of Duncan as the GOAT or one of the GOATs.

We’re talking about a former No. 1 pick who exceeded all expectations, turning a franchise into a dynasty and playing for the same team his entire career.

Duncan was one of the greatest defensive players ever, and perhaps his lack of showmanship was the only reason why he never won Defensive Player of the Year.

But he was a 5-time NBA champion who was one offensive rebound away from going 6-0 in the NBA Finals, just like Michael Jordan.

He won 3 NBA Finals MVP awards, and 2 MVPs, was a 15-time All-Star, won one All-Star MVP, made it to 15 All-Defensive teams, 15 All-NBA teams, won Rookie of the Year, averaged a double-double for his career, and was a ruling force on both ends of the floor from start to finish of his career.

Duncan might not be the GOAT, but he’s definitely not that far off.
