A few years ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBA was forced to change things drastically by setting up an NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida, in order to finish out the season due to the unusual circumstances that were taking place around the world.
This forced some of the best teams in the NBA to battle it out for a championship while spending more than three months together on a resort in Orlando.
Heading into the bubble, the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers were considered the teams to beat, with Kawhi Leonard and company potentially having a slight edge over LeBron James’ squad.
Ultimately, the Clippers fell apart in the NBA playoffs and were beaten in embarrassing fashion by the Denver Nuggets.
The Lakers went on to win it all while the Clippers began using excuses for why things didn’t pan out for them in the postseason in such a strange situation in Orlando.
Former Clippers guard Lou Williams shed light on what really happened in the bubble as he claims the team stopped trying after hearing all the noise about no one respecting a title won in the bubble environment, via NBACentral.
“We started to hear the rumblings that nobody is going to respect this chip so we kind of just took our foot off the gas”

Even if this was the case for the Clippers, it probably wasn’t a wise decision to admit this, as it makes the Clippers look even worse than they did before this became public knowledge.
Ever since this meltdown in the bubble, the once-dominant Clippers have never been the same, and it could stem from this attitude that was adopted by caring about what other people had to say.
