The last few hours haven’t been pretty for the New York Yankees.
General manager Brian Cashman got brutally honest about slugger Giancarlo Stanton, saying that “he is going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game”.
Even though Cashman is essentially right – Stanton has suffered heel, calf, knee, hamstring and quad injuries in his Yankees tenure – it was certainly shocking to hear him say that.
Stanton’s response came a day later, on Tuesday, through his agent.
“It’s a good reminder for free agents, foreign or domestic, considering signing in New York that to play for that team you have to be made of teflon”, Joel Wolfe stated.
Some people are concerned about Cashman trying to sabotage the team’s relationship with Stanton and Wolfe because the latter is the agent for Yankees target Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
As you know, the Yankees are very much interested in Yamamoto and, well, it’s not a good idea to make his agent mad.
However, per Yankees insider Chris Kirschner, it will all come down to money.
“If the Yankees offer Yamamoto the most money, I think I know where he’ll be signing,” he tweeted.

Yamamoto has been brilliant in Japan for seven seasons now.
In 2023, he finished with a comically good 1.48 ERA in 164 innings.
He showed what he can do in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and recently struck out 14 hitters in a single Japan Series game.
He has top-notch stuff, impeccable command, and an enviable makeup, making him a prime free-agent target.
In the end, it’s hard to see Wolfe and Yamamoto saying no to the Yankees if they are the highest bidders.
