The Washington Commanders felt quite comfortable parting ways with Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz in the offseason because they felt confident in Sam Howell.

Howell reportedly made some big strides in the offseason, and there was hope that having Eric Bieniemy there would do wonders for his development.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve seen some bad and some good from the UNC product.

Some are still on the fence about him, while others have seen more than enough to think that he’s not the guy they need right now.

Whatever the case, one thing’s for sure: He’s already made NFL history in just a handful of starts.

According to the Commanders’ PR department and Dov Kleiman, Howell is the only quarterback in the history of the league with at least 2,900 passing yards, over 200 rushing yards, and a 65% completion percentage through his first 11 career games.

Howell clearly has the arm strength to sling the football down the field, and he’s more mobile than one would think from the naked eye.

He’s not particularly big or uber-athletic, and he should have better numbers with that kind of receiving corps, but it still seems like we haven’t seen the best of him just yet.

The Commanders are going to be quite aggressive in the offseason trying to upgrade their roster.

Still, perhaps the wisest decision will be to allow Howell to get another year under Bieniemy’s tutelage before jumping to make any conclusions about his future as the team’s starting quarterback.
