The NBA is the most competitive basketball league on Earth, and as such, any team can beat anybody on any given night.
That was on full display last night when the struggling Charlotte Hornets took down the almighty Boston Celtics in a double-overtime thriller.
Clearly, this game meant more for the Hornets, who had kept receipts of some of Jayson Tatum’s words from the offseason.
Tatum tried to inspire kids in attendance at his training camp by letting them know that they had to bring their A-Game on every single night; it didn’t matter if it was a nationally televised game or an NBA League Pass Monday night game vs. the Hornets.
That’s why, following the win, Hornets forward PJ Washington took a big shot at his adversary, stating that it was: “Not bad for a Monday night on League Pass” (via Legion Hoops).

Notably, Tatum did live up to his standard and his words, as he was spectacular with 45 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists in the road loss, but it wasn’t enough to lead his team past the finish line.
The Celtics are now 11-3 and continue to have the best record in the Eastern Conference, so it’s only natural that they continue to have bragging rights over most of their competition.
But the Hornets got significantly better with the controversial return of Miles Bridges.
They’re 4-9 and 13th in the conference, but they’ve now shown that they can compete toe-to-toe with the best of them, so that record should only get better soon.
