It was kind of shocking to see that the Indianapolis Colts suddenly decided to part ways with three-time All-Pro LB Shaquille Leonard.
He’s now officially cleared waivers and has gauged interest from multiple teams, as he should.
Unsurprisingly, the Dallas Cowboys have been tied to the former Defensive Rookie of the Year, and team owner Jerry Jones just confirmed that they’ve actually touched base with him (via Jon Machota).
Jerry Jones on Darius Shaquille Leonard: “We had a short meeting on that before the game and we’ll see how we do with our evaluation and look at him pretty good. Like to see, look at some health things. I know a lot of teams are looking at him, so I don’t want to give an… https://t.co/V9nnncnkfN

Following the Thanksgiving day win over the Washington Commanders, Jones didn’t want to get into a lot of details and added that they still needed to check him health-wise, but he confirmed the team’s interest in his services.
The Cowboys could definitely use a boost at the position after losing Leighton Vander Esch for the season — and potentially further.
Leonard is a well-respected and well-known veteran who could make an immediate impact on any team, even in Dallas.
The sophomore duo of Damone Clark and Markquese Bell have done a solid job of picking up the slack and making sure the team stays competitive after Vander Esch’s injury, but none of them has Leonard’s résumé and talent.
The Philadelphia Eagles are also reportedly set to meet with Leonard, adding to an already impressive defense, which is why the Cowboys would be wise to make a move and make sure he doesn’t end up with their biggest divisional foes.
It shouldn’t take long before we find out Leonard’s next career step, as well as what went wrong in Indy before his shocking release.
