NBA referee Scott Foster and Chris Paul of the Golden State Warriors just clearly do not see eye-to-eye.
That was very obvious the other night when Foster ejected Paul during the first half of the Phoenix Suns’ win over the Warriors.
Speaking on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith said that the Foster-Paul situation doesn’t sit right with him and that something needs to change.
“They do need to move on. They don’t need to be on the same court together.” Smith said.
He said that Foster is a celebrated and respect ref but Paul is the sort of experienced player who will “expose” any “hiccups” that an official has during a game.
As noted by Smith and others, Paul’s teams seem to lose often when Foster is officiating.
Paul’s squads have been favored to win in 15 of 20 playoff games with Foster involved and have earned a 3-17 record in those games.
To make matters worse, they have lost by an average of more than 10 points during those games.
Some fans feel that Foster is unfairly targeting Paul while others say he is just doing his job.
Regardless, the NBA is almost certainly looking into the troubled relationship between these two and might end up separating them for the near future.
Paul believes that Foster really does have it out for him and called Wednesday night’s ejection “personal.”
He even said that unrest between him and Foster has something to do with Paul’s son, which only raised more questions.
Smith is right when he says that Paul’s track record with Foster is troubling and it should certainly be investigated.
Will we ever get to the bottom of why these two just can’t get along?
