On Friday, in the NFL’s first game ever played on Black Friday, the Miami Dolphins took one step closer to winning the AFC East division title as they were able to get the best of the division-rival New York Jets with relative ease on the road at MetLife Stadium.

With the win over the Jets, the Dolphins improved their record to 8-3 on the season, which has the team sitting comfortably atop the AFC East, with the Buffalo Bills behind them at 6-5.

Even though the Dolphins took another step toward clinching the division title, it didn’t come without a cost, as the team has likely lost linebacker Jaelan Phillips for the rest of the season with what appears to be a torn Achilles tendon.

According to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, the situation “doesn’t look great” and it seems the team is preparing for the worst, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Ironically enough, the Jets saw the same devastating injury ruin Aaron Rodgers’ first season with the team, as he ruptured his Achilles on his first drive as the team’s starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Bills.

Unlike Phillips who will almost certainly be out for the season and miss time next season, Rodgers hopes to get back on the field for the Jets this year, as he’s reportedly making an unprecedented recovery from the injury that can end careers, especially for players at his age.

Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings also went down with the same injury recently, ending his season.
