Ja Morant is one of the NBA’s brightest young talents and one of its most exciting players, but he has had his issues off the court.

He has been involved in a number of gun-related incidents, and his latest such incident resulted in a 25-game suspension, one he is currently serving.

Without him, the Memphis Grizzlies have been struggling mightily, and they got blown out, 119-97, by the surging Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday to drop to a 3-13 record.

Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards said he’s looking forward to Morant’s return to game action, per ClutchPoints.

“We’re looking forward to him getting back, because I’m ready to watch him play. He’s an exciting player… I know he’s ready to come back and put on a show, we’re ready to see it.”

Minnesota is a surprising 12-4 to start the season, and Edwards has been the biggest reason why, as he continues to raise his game.

He’s averaging 26.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists a game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from 3-point range, and at age 22, he still should have plenty of room for improvement.

But perhaps the X-factor for the team has been defense, as it is tied for the best defensive rating in the NBA.

Last season, Morant was named to the All-Star team for the second time and averaged 26.2 points and a career-high 8.1 assists a game while leading the Grizzlies to the second-best record in the Western Conference.

However, they fizzled out early in the playoffs when the Los Angeles Lakers knocked them out of the first round in six games.

Not too long ago, Memphis was tabbed as an emerging contender, but now it is clear they have lots of growing up to do, and perhaps Morant needs to grow up more than any of his teammates do.
