After Shaquille Leonard’s surprising release from the Indianapolis Colts, fans immediately speculated on his next destination.
At 28 years old, Leonard seemingly has plenty of gas left in the tank, ready to contribute to a new team.
The Dallas Cowboys were immediately identified as a top destination, and he is gearing up for a visit with the team.
Jerry Jones highlighted what this visit would look like in a radio conversation with 105.3 The Fan, shared via Jon Machota.
Jones talked about having lunch with Leonard, saying, “We want to check his health.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said he’ll have lunch today with All-Pro LB Shaq Leonard.
“He’s been (an) outstanding (player). We want to check his health. That’s what he’s doing right now. … This isn’t a hard scouting job. … We have a pretty attractive situation…

For a player of Leonard’s caliber to be cut likely means that there is something below the surface that the Colts identified.
Jones and his team will work to figure that out, wanting to get to the root of an issue before considering signing him.
If everything goes according to plan, and Leonard seems to be in good health, the Cowboys will seemingly not hesitate to move forward with a contract.
Jones called the Cowboys “a pretty attractive situation for any player.”
At 8-3, the Cowboys have one of the best records in the NFC and are seemingly on their way to a playoff berth.
If Leonard does join the team, he could impact one of the league’s top defenses, hoping to assist them on a title run.
Of course, this is if Leonard chooses to sign with the Cowboys.
Several other teams have expressed interest in him, including the Philadelphia Eagles.
They too are a top NFC team, and would likely jump at the chance to add to their already-impressive defensive unit.
