Chase Claypool’s NFL career has been a whirlwind to this point.

He entered the league as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, nicknamed “Mapletron” for his size, strength, and speed.

Many believed he would perform similarly to Calvin Johnson, and he showed flashes of brilliance throughout his rookie year.

However, his standing with the Steelers quickly changed, and he was traded to the Chicago Bears in the middle of his third season, hoping to make an impact on a new roster.

After spending less than a year with the Bears, Claypool was again traded to the Miami Dolphins, an already receiver-heavy team.

While some thought the Dolphins could be a good landing spot for Claypool, he has only been active for three of seven games, as Dov Kleiman calls out in a recent tweet.

Since the #Dolphins traded for WR Chase Claypool from the #Bears, he’s been inactive for 4 out of 7 games.

In the three games he did play, he combined to catch only 1 pass for 15 yards.https://t.co/RptEMmBhi3 pic.twitter.com/yoZXGTkEVw

In the three games he has played for the Dolphins, Claypool has logged just one reception for 15 yards.

He hasn’t made a monumental impact on this team, which might be a cause for concern.

The good news for the Dolphins is that they only invested a seventh-round draft pick into Claypool.

If he doesn’t pan out over the rest of the year, cutting him in the offseason should not be a big deal, especially in terms of their overall cap space.

For a player that was once seen as an elite, one-of-a-kind athlete, Claypool’s current positioning within the league is surprising.

Whether he ever gets back to having a meaningful role on an NFL roster remains to be seen, but at this point, it doesn’t look promising.
