Over the last couple of weeks, the New Orleans Pelicans have found a new energy and a string of impressive wins against the Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, and others.
Things could be getting even better for the team this weekend because of a returning sharpshooter.
Shams Charania is reporting that “there’s optimism” that Trey Murphy III will make his season debut on Friday in a game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Murphy hasn’t played a game yet this season due to the recovery process from a meniscus tear in September.

Murphy had surgery that month and has been slowly but surely progressing to a return.
Last season, Murphy averaged 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
He is best known for his shooting abilities and recorded a field-goal percentage of 48.4% and 40.6% from beyond the three-point line in 2022-23.
The Pelicans are lacking when it comes to strong shooters, especially three-point specialists, so Murphy’s return is a cause for celebration in New Orleans.
If he does suit up on Friday, it’ll be just days after one of the team’s other best point-makers, CJ McCollum, also came back after a long absence.
McCollum suffered a collapsed lung and missed multiple games but he was back on Wednesday night with 20 points, including three 3-pointers.
The return of McCollum and now Murphy is great news for the Pelicans, who have looked much more formidable lately.
They are the eighth team in the West but they are showing serious signs of progress and are clearly headed in the right direction.
Zion Williamson has remained healthy and is playing passionately, other stars like Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas are consistent, and now two of the team’s best shooters are coming back.
Things are looking up for the Pelicans.
