The New Orleans Pelicans have been off to a rocky start in the 2023-24 NBA season.
They are currently the eighth seed in the Western Conference with a 10-9 record this season.
While the Pelicans can certainly be in a better position at this point in the season, they could have been worse too.
A key reason behind finding some consistency in this season lies in finding good shooters like Trey Murphy III and Jordan Hawkins.
Although the players are good shooters, Murphy went as far as saying that he and Hawkins are arguably the second-best shooting duo in the league, via ClutchPoints on Twitter.
“There’s probably maybe one other duo that can probably shoot better than me and Hawk and I’ll still have to have an argument with that,” Murphy said.

Murphy was most likely hinting at only the Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson duo being better than him and Hawkins.
To be honest, it is a huge statement and can only be verified by taking the Pelicans duo’s numbers into consideration.
Murphy is yet to make his season debut for the Pelicans this season, so it’s undoubtedly hard to rank him.
On the other hand, Hawkins is a rookie who is putting up 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game for the team.
But he is shooting an underwhelming 39.6% from the field, which surprisingly includes shooting 37.1% from downtown.
Keeping the numbers in mind, it’s hard to agree with this assessment of Murphy and Hawkins being the best shooting duo in the league.
After all, the two players haven’t even played a single game together in the 2023-24 NBA season.
