The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the San Francisco 49ers in blowout fashion this week.

There was significant pregame hype surrounding this matchup, as it was a meeting between two of the NFC’s best teams.

The Eagles’ performance surprised many, given their record of 10-1 coming into the game.

Several of their players received criticism after this game, including cornerback Darius Slay.

Analyst Seth Joyner talked about the state of the cornerback position as a whole, saying, “Our CBs are as disinterested at tackling someone as a young kid coming out to play football for the first time.”

Slay took particular offense to this, responding to Joyner in a tweet.

He claimed Joyner was spouting nonsense, that he and the rest of the Eagles’ defense played well throughout the game.

The Eagles’ secondary allowed Brock Purdy to throw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, giving Joyner additional ammunition to throw at this defensive performance.

Joyner talked about the 49ers’ dominance of the Eagles defense, specifically referencing Deebo Samuel.

Samuel had his hands all over this game, scoring three touchdowns and accounting for 137 yards of offense.

Joyner believes the Eagles did not want to tackle any 49ers’ players, including Samuel.

The only player that had any semblance of competence throughout this game, at least in Joyner’s mind, was Reed Blankenship.

Everyone else, including Slay, had a lackluster day.

There were questions about the Eagles’ secondary heading into this game, and Joyner’s comments seem to indicate that some of the trepidation was valid.

With this game in mind, fans will be interested to see how the Eagles’ secondary adapts throughout the rest of the season.
