The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered two losses in their Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

They not only lost on the scoreboard, but Trevor Lawrence is now dealing with an ankle injury and could miss time depending on the severity.

Lawrence’s injury was the latest in a string of quarterback ailments this season.

As Andrew Siciliano has recently highlighted, if Lawrence does not play this week, four of the seven teams in the AFC’s playoff race will roll out a backup quarterback.

If Trevor Lawrence can’t play Sunday, FOUR of the 7 current AFC playoff teams will start a backup QB in Week 14.

The Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers will start a backup next week.

Gardner Minshew has been in his role for several weeks and has gotten time to acclimate to his new position on this roster.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson has also gotten significant experience for the Browns this year, given the roller coaster of Deshaun Watson’s season.

The Jaguars and Steelers are not accustomed to backup quarterbacks, as Kenny Pickett and Lawrence have stayed healthy throughout the year.

For playoff hopefuls, being fully healthy is of utmost importance.

If their quarterbacks continue to miss time, it can dampen the spirits of the locker room and fanbase, given the importance of the position.

However, as evidenced by Minshew and Jake Browning, the Bengals backup, anything can happen in the NFL.

If the rest of the offense is healthy and bought into the schemes of a backup QB, there is still a possibility of success.

A team like the Jaguars that has surged under Lawrence will need much motivation to continue, especially if he misses several weeks.

With upcoming matchups against the Browns and Baltimore Ravens, the Jaguars cannot afford more losses.
