The San Antonio Spurs aren’t a good basketball team right now.
They do have some good basketball players, but that’s not the same at all.
They’re losers of 15 games in a row, and it doesn’t seem like they have the personnel to turn things around.
With that in mind, NBA analyst Kevin Wildes stated they should pursue a veteran point guard to right the course of the ship.
How did the Spurs get worse? Why not grab a veteran PG to guide Wemby? https://t.co/VGXxDric0s

Of course, that makes perfect sense, especially in terms of helping Victor Wembanyama get better looks and a better feel of his offense.
Then again, it’s not like the Spurs are trying to win games right now, either.
Having Jeremy Sochan running the point proved to be a failed experiment, and they’ve looked slightly better with Devin Vassell instead, but at least both players have been able to improve their passing, vision, and playmaking skills in the meantime.
The Spurs should be in line to get another top-3 pick next season and have another franchise cornerstone to build their team around, perhaps even a guard.
Teams have to be very careful when rebuilding because losing habits tend to stick, and they cannot afford to have Wembanyama get used to playing losing basketball.
Still, they were never expected to be in the mix or compete this year, so there’s no need to panic at all.
They could and should pursue some veterans for mentorship purposes, but, contrary to popular belief and common sense, winning might not be in their best interest right now.
