The New England Patriots are just 3-10 this season, and they’re on pace to finish with their lowest win total in some 30 years.
Their struggles this year have resulted in plenty of rumors that longtime head coach Bill Belichick may get fired at some point soon, something that was unthinkable as recently as late summer.
As of now, he is still the team’s coach and de facto general manager, but that latter role is what has really caused many to blame him for his team’s poor play.
Maurice Jones-Drew said per NFL GameDay that perhaps the Patriots will give Belichick another chance as a coach by having someone else take on general manager duties, but he also gave a reminder that “dynasties never end pretty.”

Belichick once seemed untouchable, as he teamed with legendary quarterback Tom Brady to deliver New England six Super Bowl championships and make them one of the greatest dynasties in the history of modern team sports.
But since Brady left following the 2019 season, Belichick has struggled to keep the team competitive.
Since then, it has finished over .500 just once, and overall, his record without Brady, which includes his years coaching the Cleveland Browns in the 1990s, is rather poor.
In 2021, the one post-Brady year in which the Patriots had a winning record, there was a glimmer of hope for the future, as quarterback Mac Jones, then a rookie, made the Pro Bowl.
But Jones has struggled since, and the team has shuffled back and forth between him and Bailey Zappe under center.
