The New York Knicks are off to a respectable 12-8 start in the 2023-24 NBA season.

Despite the solid start, many reports have suggested that the Knicks will trade for a star player in a heartbeat if such an opportunity presents itself.

It could mean finally getting over the hurdles in the NBA playoffs and having a shot at winning it all this season.

While that was the general consensus around the Knicks’ plans moving forward, the organization has shifted its plan as per Basketball on X on Twitter.

Knicks Don’t Expect to Land Star Player this season

Knicks’ hope for Joel Embiid has “lessened” due to the Sixers’ success, and they haven’t shown “serious interest” in acquiring Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan or Nikola Vučević from the Chicago Bulls either.

Previously, the Knicks were reportedly interested in trading for Joel Embiid.

Many believed that Embiid would be unhappy and seek a move away from the Philadelphia 76ers following the departure of James Harden earlier this season.

However, the 76ers are currently the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 13-7 record.

Considering that Embiid is currently happy, it makes no sense to pursue the reigning MVP.

On the other hand, the Knicks now have a reduced interest in trading for Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, or Nikola Vucevic as well.

While the Chicago Bulls have not played well this season, as they have an 8-14 record, neither of the above-mentioned players have that X-factor that could make life easy for the Knicks.

Keeping that in mind, the Knicks will most likely keep their dynamic duo of Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle intact.

The duo succeeded in taking the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the 2023 playoff.

Can they take it a notch further this postseason? Only time will tell.
