Different year, same-old Los Angeles Chargers.
It seems like it doesn’t matter how good of a team they have, this franchise cannot seem to get over the hump, and luck has rarely bounced their way, especially in close games.
Now, they’re going to have to finish the season without their best player, as Justin Herbert won’t take the field again this campaign.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Herbert just underwent season-ending surgery to repair his broken index finger on his right hand.
According to HC Brandon Staley, it was the best decision for his long-term future.
Needless to say, fans had plenty to say about this sad news.

Makes sense. 0 playoff hopes, especially if Staley keeps calling that defense. Get better Herbert!

The best for Herbert’s future would be Brandon Staley fired

The Chargers are tied with the Las Vegas Raiders at the bottom of the AFC West with an unimpressive 5-8 record, and that was with a healthy Herbert.
Truth be told, they would be better off by losing out on the season and just focusing on the upcoming NFL Draft.
Multiple reports state that Staley is going to be fired at the end of the season, and that showed a lot during the second half of the campaign, as he’s been erratic and hesitant to take risks.
Staley has failed to make his defensive expertise felt in Los Angeles since he took the reins of the team, and some were already asking for his head long before this season started.
As for Herbert, he still has a bright future ahead of him, but he’s also left a lot to be desired in clutch time and when trailing.
