The NBA has implemented a plethora of rules in its history.
While some improve the quality of the game, the same cannot be said for other rules which are implemented by the league.
One of the most criticized rules currently in place is players receiving technical fouls for hanging on the rim after dunking the basketball.
Regardless of the stature of a player, the referees aren’t shy about hitting them with a technical foul if they hang for a bit after finishing off a dunk.
Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is extremely against this rule and explained why it simply makes no sense, via Alex Kennedy on Twitter.
“Anybody who has ever played or dunked the ball, your momentum, you just try to make sure that you are stable when you land. You don’t want anyone underneath you,” Tatum said.

Dunking the basketball is a great skill to have in the arsenal.
Almost every player in the league is able to perform at least the basic dunks if given enough time.
However, players who regularly dunk the basketball always run the risk of injuring themselves if they fail to land correctly after the dunk.
Even Tatum pointed out that anyone who has ever played basketball knows how important it is to ensure a stable landing after performing a dunk during the heat of the game.
Tatum also called out the refs for seemingly wanting him to land on his back rather than taking an extra few seconds to ensure a safe landing for himself.
With the league always changing its rules, it would not be a surprise if NBA Commissioner Adam Silver introduces a more lenient penalty for hanging on the rim.
