The first-ever In-Season Tournament in the NBA is officially in the books, with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers coming out on top after going undefeated and beating the Indiana Pacers in the championship game in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Even though all signs pointed to the Lakers not raising a banner at Crpyto.com Arena to commemorate this tournament win, the storied franchise has let it be known that it will raise a banner in the rafters due to beating the Pacers over the weekend.

This was a bit of a surprise because the Lakers already have 17 championship banners hanging in the rafters, which is tied for the league-best with the arch-rival Boston Celtics.

However, the team has chosen to make the banner a bit different from the others they have won and won’t be adding more than one if the team wins another In-Season Tournament, with the Lakers making enough space to add years for each NBA Cup won during the regular season.

NBA superstar turned analyst Charles Barkley isn’t fond of the idea of the Lakers putting up a banner for the In-Season Tournament win, as he told Dan Patrick on “The Dan Patrick Show,” via ClutchPoints.

“You don’t do champagne for the In-Season Tournament… If [the Lakers] put that In-Season Tournament banner up, I’m going to roast their a*s on television.”

Of course, Barkley will likely get some heat for this take, considering the fact he never won anything notable during his NBA career outside of an NBA MVP award with the Phoenix Suns.

Even though Barkley isn’t crazy about the idea of a banner for this tournament, it makes sense if the teams in the league want to strive to win the tournament every year while making it a thing moving forward.
